Leg 1, San Mateo to Half Moon Bay

Our route from Coyote Point Marina to Pillar Point Marina

We (Mark and Liz) traveled 52.8nm today (Saturday October 6, 2012) on the 1st leg of our journey south. We departed Coyote Point Marina at 4:00am and headed north past AT&T park, under the Bay Bridge, then west (avoiding the America's Cup restricted zone), under the Golden Gate Bridge, 3nm out and South (well wide of Maverick's) to Pillar Point Harbor. We arrived in Half Moon Bay 10-1/2 hours later at 2:30pm. We had calm conditions, light winds and motor-sailed the entire way. We encountered fog under the Golden Gate Bridge but the ocean was glassy with no swell. The day was gorgeous! We saw lots of birds, harbor seals, porpoises, two large schools of several hundred jelly fish, both white moon jellies and big orange ones with lots of trailing tentacles. We even saw the Blue Angels fly overhead. Now we're tired.

  1. Sounds like a fun, but long, first leg ... can't wait to help move Bluewater on south to San Diego.
