Bahía Santa Maria

Woke up today to a full report from Lawrence!
10Dec 8:15am PST email from Lawrence:
Hola!
Thanks for checking on us and all the great reporting on our adventures.  Departing Asunción we caught 2 mackerel on boat lines over a shallower reef.  Andrew released one and we fried the other up on the griddle with a egg, bread crumb batter.   Yum!  Andrew and Ryan are very skilled and hard-working.   Hard to imagine more capable crew.   Ryan does the great majority of cooking and dishes followed by Andrew and we’ve been very conservative with the water.  Great to have them aboard and Gloria is learning the ropes more and more each day.  Our batteries are not taking a charge well so I plan to replace them all in Cabo San Lucas if possible.

We chatted on the VHF with s/v Paragon last night as they were sailing close to us so I hailed them to say hello.   They hailed us later in the evening when the winds unexpectedly picked up to around 25kts yet again.   The skipper said, “where the hell did this come from?”  We had reefed our main to 2nd and stowed the screacher, but only very light winds were forecast. Shortly after our conversation on 68 we heard in Spanish on 16 - “Those Americanos are soft…”.  Amazing 😂

It’s been challenging sailing as our destinations have been DDW and the sails have blocked the sun from our solar panels so it’s constant effort to get any sun while keeping from accidental gybing.   We arrived to see about 6 or so boats anchored in fairly deep water.  We can see them on the AIS and also radar which we use judiciously due to power consumption.   All vessels weighed anchor and departed this morning while I’m watching, typing except a military vessel and Paragon who re-anchored this morning just next to us.  Their crew is a relatively young couple along with their dog so we’re looking forward to dinghying over to say hello.  They have a gorgeous 50’ new yacht.  The bay is beautiful but there is still wind and sun so we may depart again bound for Cabo.  We don’t have enough fuel to make it without wind. We’ll keep you posted as much as possible.
Love to all

Fresh grilled lobsters!
PS. Just as I was about to push ‘send’ we were approached by a panga with 3 fisherman. They had fresh, live langostas so we traded Oreos, licorice, sour candies and pesos for 6 nice specimens. Looking forward to grilled lobster tail and eggs in the very near future. They requested ‘candies’ for trade so I’ll need to console Gloria after she gave up her prized stash. Pics to come when we reach Cabo

That bucket is sure making the rounds...Love it!

Ready! LOTS of grilled lobster!

Fantastic meal! Could be in a foodie magazine! Andrew looks happy!
