Leg 14:  Bahía Tortuga to Bahía Asunción (approx 60nm)

I asked Mark to review and estimate duration of this Leg and he said that if you assume 4-6 knots boat speed for 60nm it’ll take anywhere from 10-16 hours (including anchoring and what not) which is why they left at night, so they can arrive and anchor in the morning.

Bluewater checked in safe & sound @ Bahía Asunción!

Bahía Asunción

7Dec 7:02am PST Text from Lawrence:
Arrived and anchored off the beach.   0750.  Bahia Asunción

I accused Lawrence of being an hour off (Must have been 0650, eh?) to which he replied:

Apparently we entered another time zone after Ensenada.  All of our phones, iPads & instruments leaped forward una hora.  Into a new, uncharted time-space continuum. 😉

Suffice it to say, I'm already on overload translating GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) to PST (Pacific Standard Time). I see that Bluewater is now in Baja México's UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) minus 7 standard time or similar to the US MT (Mountain Time).

Bluewater is in a new Time Zone!

Bluewater arrived!
6:50am PST
7:50am local Baja Time

And then:

Good wind through most the night.  I had first watch from 2020 to 2400 and turned off the motors as soon as we reached open water.   Winds from 8-14 until 0430 when it died and we motored the rest.   We’re not really allowed to fish any more.  It gives Gloria a panic that we’ll catch one!   She did not like that episode one bit

You’re killing me with hilarity (hilariousness?)

Water is 2 deg warmer at 72° F

Ronstan batten cars on mainsail track

When Lawrence sent this close-up photo, I viewed it with Mark and we texted back, Is this a photo of the batten cars on the mainsail track? Is this what Ryan was repairing? to which he replied:

Yes.  Andrew found a ceramic bearing on the trampoline (net) and I knew right away those batten cars had loosened up so we spent hours replacing one car and repairing a second.  I’ll keep a better eye on them.  That should never happen

I have full spare cars and also replacement bearings.   Those cars cost me $800 each.  Not happy with Ronstan

Looks like they are meeting other cruisers
I see cruiser1, Lawrence, cruiser2, cruiser3, Ryan with a backpack, and a partial view of Gloria
I guess that means Andrew probably took the photo

Gloria and Bluewater! Nice framing!

Gloria and I went to church.  Prayed for Cody and the family and our safe passage. Had lunch in the only restaurant here.

Lawrence climbing up to Hotel La Playa

Room 2

We are staying in Hotel de Playa and the hard working crew are staying on Bluewater

We are staying in a very nice hotel.  Hotel de Playa for $28 per night so we have WiFi and a hotel room with hot showers for less than the price of WiFi service in Santa Barbara

Departure Day!

Lawrence texted me a bunch of photos this morning and then called me this afternoon and told me a few stories.

They had a great time in Tortuga. They met other cruisers including 2 couples including Chris & Jesse with the lop-eared bunny. Someone gave them charts with satellite images. They are down to 80-85 gallons of water and will hopefully start using the water maker soon to figure out the system. They must be good at water conservation - I think Bluewater only holds about 100 gallons!

At some point, flying fish landed on Bluewater's bow trampolines (nets). They filleted them and got roe out of at least one. They also had squid land on the swim steps. Andrew took an awesome photo of the sunset last night but it's not easy to send all the photos.

Today they ran up the coastal hills and the ocean was as calm as glass. They plan to depart later today.

And they're off again!!! Stay tuned....
